Kind words from great people.

  • I experienced a wonderfully gentle yet powerful counselling service where I was in the driver’s seat – a place I was not expecting to be.  It’s most empowering to be able to navigate and discover more about who you are whilst being gently and skillfully guided to peel back the layers to reveal what lies at the core.  I have no hesitation in recommending Thrive to others who want to regain that control.”- P.C. • “In January 2002, at age 54, I had lost my mom, had been diagnosed with Type II Diabetes and had three of four sons away at college. I was getting things done but life was crisis to crisis. It was time for a change. I had no idea where I wanted to go or how I’d get there. I only knew I had to do it. Using my values and goals, my coach and I prioritised what I wanted for my health, spirituality, career and relationships. She became my line in the sand. If I did not act as I said I would we figured out why. From very basic things like organizing my home, to filling out job applications, to dealing with the death of an infant son who died 23 years ago, we faced those things that I had refused to look at for so long. A year and a half later I have controlled my diabetes and lost 75 pounds and I exercise regularly! I have a job that challenges me. My relationships with my husband, my children, my friends and my coworkers are intimate in a way I never could have imagined. I interact with freedom and confidence. Working with my Life Coach has given me a control over my life that I have never before experienced. When things start to slip into chaos again I go back to those values and goals we referred to so often. Thank you for showing me how to recognize my successes and to deal with my shortcomings. -- B.T., Manager.

  • My life coaching experience has not only helped me to achieve goals, but more importantly, it has enabled me to discover who I am, what makes me tick, and what those goals really are. My coach has the gift of being able to find the hidden treasures that allow me to achieve those goals. My sessions are always productive. -- C.O., Sales

  • “Working with my Life Coach has been a great blessing to me. She has been remarkably supportive, gentle and compassionate yet skillfully adept at helping me focus on what is really important to me, what stands in my way and what next steps I want and need to take to accomplish my goals. She is a great listener. I really feel heard, and that has been key to my trusting the coaching process. And she has fantastic, creative ideas that I've found eye-opening, simple and practical. I've been surprised to find myself, after every session, muttering, "Well, that was worth the cost!" It's amazing to me, looking back at the process, how someone could help me cut through the brambles to be able to visualize some key goals. In retrospect, my next steps were obvious and the natural outgrowth of years of previous contemplation and experience. But they weren't obvious to me before I starting Life Coaching. It's also amazing how making some undramatic (I didn't need to move, quit my job, or leave my family), but substantial, additions to my life are making such a big difference in how I feel about myself and how much more satisfied I feel with the direction my life is taking. It may be trite, but it's still moving: that just taking one step--in this case, beginning the coaching process--seems to open doors. -- L.M., Administrator

  • “Over the past year my Life Coach has been coaching me through some very big transitions in my life and I could not have navigated through these changes with as much honesty and grace without his help. His coaching skills helped me identify and focus on the most important aspects of this change and face the fears that have hindered me so much in the past. He helped me to clearly identify my values and use these as a guide to making life's judgements and changes. Our discussions are forever in my memory and her sensitive and insightful coaching will always guide me. -- J.C., Health Professional

  • “Life coaching has helped me to identify issues that have stood in the way of business success and assisted me in developing techniques for working around or through these issues. As someone who has gone through substantial change in my professional career over the past couple of years, I count on coaching to ensure that this transition continues to go smoothly. -- P.R. • Life coaching has given me the ability to focus on something concrete and see it evolve. Whether it's a challenge that I wasn't able to work through in years past or a new endeavor that will affect my personal or business growth, I can look forward to having my Life Coach there to guide me towards reaching that place of peace and satisfaction. It reminds me of a saying that I have seen: I don't know what the future holds but I know who holds the future. -- C. M., Business Owner

  • “I first came to Thrive for CBT, after years of suffering from anxiety-related problems, which seemed to be getting worse rather than better. I can honestly say that the work has transformed my life, and dramatically improved my quality of life. It was such a relief to work with someone who literally stripped back the miniature and gave an accurate diagnosis of what the problem was. I immediately felt on the road to recovery from that point – knowing that there was a specific condition that I was suffering from and there was a clear path that I should follow to alleviate the problem. My therapist struck the perfect balance between being compassionate and being direct about how I needed to make changes - enabling me to be my own therapist in the long run (without a dependency on seeing a therapist). I would highly recommend Thrive to anyone suffering from similar problems, urging them that it may well be their biggest and most significant step in terms of a successful recovery” – F.T., Antrim

  • “Having experienced depression on and off for a number of years I was amazed at how effective cognitive therapy is. It is very challenging and gets to the very heart of how you think, behave and react to the world around you. It gave me a new and more realistic perspective on life so that I am more confident within myself and my relationship with other people and I have become much more palmer and relaxed as a result.” A.N., Lisburn

  • “ I was off work sick from work with Depression, Distorted Thoughts and Anxiety caused by Panic Attacks from stress at work, at the time suicide seemed to be a big possibility for me, this was compounded by medication from my GP that made me feel more depressed. I am now coming to the end of my treatment with Thrive, I am back at work, doing a more responsible job. I am now content and assured, I never thought I would be capable of feeling like this. I owe a lot of to the team at Thrive for help and support through Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. By taking ownership of what I control, i.e. my feelings and my anger, I have begun to greatly influence the way I react to what I used to perceive as arrogance and animosity from others. By understanding where my anger was generated and asking myself pertinent questions, such as 'Do I need to get angry about this?' and 'How will getting angry (i.e. losing my temper) benefit me here?', I have avoided explosions and remained calm.” – D.H. • “I wasn’t sure what to expect from counselling, I’d never been before and I was really nervous, but my counselor put me at ease and explained how it would work. It is the first time I have been able to talk about events from when I was a child……things which were still upsetting me. My counselor listened and eventually I was able to get some perspective on the situation, but most importantly I was able to move forward. I am now in a new relationship, I still sometimes get bad days, but not as many as before.” - J.D, Belfast

  • “My life fell apart when I lost my job, at first I was hopeful that I’d get another one soon, after 6 months I didn’t want to go out, I was arguing more with my wife and kids, most days I didn’t get out of bed until after lunchtime…….it made the day shorter that way. My wife gave me an ultimatum she was going to leave unless I went to see my doctor. My doctor suggested I try counselling, as an alternative to going on anti-depressants, and she referred me to Thrive. My counselor encouraged me to talk about things, she suggested setting myself small goals each day, it was difficult at first, but gradually became easier. I am now volunteering 1 day a week for a local charity, and have spoke to careers advisor about my options for re-training. The difference is that I can now see a way out, whereas before there was nothing, only blackness.”  - P.R. Bangor

  • “Counselling helped me achieve a new way of looking at my life – to cut myself some slack and realize that a lot of the pressure in my life comes from myself. My counsellor was able to help me look at things in my life in a different way…..he helped me recognize things that had influenced my life were “influences” only, but that I still ultimately remained in charge of the final decisions. The result is that I have renewed enthusiasm about what I can accomplish in my life and in relationships.”

  • Counselling wasn’t something I’d really thought of or had a lot of faith in but a friend of mine found it helpful I figured I would go just the once …….I was surprised by my counsellor at Thrive who seemed to exude a sort of calm that in itself was helpful.  Once I had attended a few sessions I gained confidence and found I started moving through my thoughts and feelings rather than trying to ignore them and from there it wasn’t too long until life was colourful and interesting again.  I sincerely recommend Thrive to anyone who needs some help to get back on track or make some decisions in their life.  Certainly I will have no hesitation in using their services again. “  - R.L.
